TAWAU, Nov 2 – Three members of a family were killed and a 15-year-old girl was critically injured after the car they were traveling in skidded and overturned along Jalan Apas in Tawau on Monday morning.
Tawau District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Rosdi Mat Jusoh stated that emergency services were alerted following the accident at Batu 14, Jalan Apas, at approximately 9:30 AM on November 2, 2026.
The three deceased victims—a 50-year-old mother and her two sons aged 30 and 28—were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel at 10:16 AM.
The family was traveling from Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, towards Tawau when the 28-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle along a straight stretch of the road.
The car skidded onto the left shoulder, slammed into an oil palm tree, traveled roughly 60 meters, and overturned before coming to a halt.
The 15-year-old girl, who was seated in the rear passenger section next to her mother, suffered severe injuries to her abdomen and ribs and was rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment.
Police background checks revealed that the 28-year-old driver did not possess a valid driving license. The wreckage has been impounded for technical inspection by the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (PUSPAKOM).
ACP Rosdi appealed for independent eyewitnesses to step forward to assist police investigations, noting that the case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. He also urged motorists to prioritize road safety and observe traffic laws.
