KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 – Tony Lim, the visionary Malaysian entrepreneur and founder of popular food and beverage (F&B) chains BananaBro and Boat Noodle, has passed away at the age of 47.
His passing was officially announced on Monday, November 2, 2026, through heartfelt condolence messages shared on the official Facebook pages of both restaurant brands.
In a touching tribute, BananaBro remembered Lim as a passionate leader driven by a mission to elevate traditional Malaysian banana leaf dining into a globally recognized culinary concept.
“Tony had a vision – to bring Malaysia’s banana leaf culture to the world. With his passion, generosity and unwavering belief in that dream, he brought BananaBro to life,” the chain stated. “Though he is no longer with us, his dream lives on in every banana leaf we serve and every life he has touched.”
Boat Noodle paid homage to Lim as a mentor and fighter whose core philosophy, “Together We Grow,” defined the brand’s culture.
“He built Boat Noodle with passion, determination and a belief that no matter how difficult the journey, we could always do better, even if it was just one per cent every day,” Boat Noodle shared. “He taught us to never give up, to believe in ourselves, and most importantly, to grow together.”
Lim made a major splash in Malaysia’s casual dining sector in 2014 when he launched Boat Noodle, pioneering the popular Thai street-style small-bowl noodle concept nationwide.
Building on that success, he established BananaBro in 2018, transforming traditional banana leaf rice into a modern, fast-casual dining experience. Both brands have since expanded across Malaysia as household names in the local F&B industry.
