Election Commission To Open 28 Nomination Centres For Melaka Polls On Saturday

Melaka polls EC nomination centres Saturday Khairul Shahril

MELAKA, Oct 29 – The Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) will open 28 official nomination centres across the state on Saturday, October 31, 2026, for the Melaka State Election.

Nomination papers must be filed directly at the designated nomination centres between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM on Saturday morning.

In an official statement released on Thursday, October 29, 2026, EC Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus specified that nomination forms must be submitted to the Returning Officer by the candidate, proposer, and seconder—or any combination/individual among them.

Prospective candidates are strongly urged to conduct preliminary documentation reviews at the Returning Officer’s office or the Melaka State Election Office ahead of time and settle required deposit payments in advance.

“The receipt for the deposit payment must be brought along on nomination day as proof of payment,” Khairul Shahril noted, adding that party-affiliated candidates must attach an official authorization letter permitting symbol usage.

He reminded political parties and candidates that campaign activities and materials remain regulated under the Election Offences Act 1954 (Act 5) and local authority bylaws.

Prohibited actions under Act 5 include using musical instruments or loudspeakers on vehicles for political campaigning and loitering within 50 meters of nomination center perimeters.

The EC called on all candidates, political parties, and security personnel to cooperate fully with local authorities and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to guarantee an orderly nomination process.
