ALOR GAJAH, Oct 27 – Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed that MCA will officially contest in the upcoming 16th Melaka State Election, scheduled for polling on November 14, 2026.
Speaking to reporters after closing the JELITA Open Day event at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) in Durian Tunggal on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister declared that high-level deliberations between coalition leaders yielded a positive resolution.
Ahmad Zahid revealed that a productive meeting was held involving MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, BN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
While affirming MCA’s inclusion, Ahmad Zahid stated that the authority to make formal candidate and seat announcements rests with Chief Minister Ab Rauf.
The resolution follows earlier statements from MCA’s central leadership indicating it would not recognize unapproved candidate announcements, particularly regarding seats traditionally contested by the party.
Addressing reports of voter dissatisfaction over localized candidate swaps, Ahmad Zahid expressed confidence that internal coalition dynamics would be settled smoothly, confirming that no further changes will be made to the candidate lineup ahead of nomination day on Saturday, October 31.
