Pakatan Harapan Completes MACC Candidate Vetting For Melaka Polls, Sets Up Strict Loyalty Bond

Pakatan Harapan candidate vetting MACC Melaka polls

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 – Pakatan Harapan (PH) has completed its comprehensive candidate screening process for the upcoming 16th Melaka State Election, incorporating rigorous integrity checks with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), PH Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil revealed.

Speaking to reporters following the Smart Parents Interactive Hub event in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Fahmi confirmed that chosen candidates will also be legally bound by strict internal party contracts, featuring severe financial penalties for any breach of party loyalty or post-election defections.

“If there is a breach, a fine will be imposed. For MPs previously, the fine was RM10 million,” Fahmi highlighted, underscoring the coalition’s commitment to candidate integrity and anti-hopping discipline.

Fahmi, who serves as Communications Minister in the federal cabinet, announced that Pakatan Harapan will officially unveil its full line-up of candidates on October 24 once the leadership council gives its final endorsement.

Candidate Composition, Seat Distribution, and Election Timetable

The upcoming announcement will reflect updated electoral strategies following seat-swapping and allocation agreements among coalition component parties:

  • Balanced Line-up: The coalition will field a strategic mix of emerging young leaders and seasoned politicians with prior election experience, including former state assembly representatives and previous winners.
  • Refreshed Seat Mapping: The candidate selection accounts for adjusted constituency assignments resulting from bilateral negotiations with PH component partners and unity government allies.
  • Announcement Schedule: Official candidate line-ups across all contested state seats will be revealed during a centralized PH event on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
  • Key Election Dates: The Election Commission has fixed nomination day for October 31, followed by early voting on November 10 and polling on November 14, 2026.
  • 2021 Election Background: In the 2021 Melaka state election, Barisan Nasional (BN) captured 21 out of 28 state seats to secure a two-thirds majority, while Pakatan Harapan won five seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) obtained two.

Pakatan Harapan’s final campaign machinery setup is expected to be fully deployed across Melaka immediately following the candidate unveiling on October 24.
