MFL Tightens Safety Protocols and Monitors Rising Haze Ahead of M-League Matches

MFL monitors haze M League matches safety

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 – The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring air quality conditions across the nation and prioritizing the health and safety of players, officials, and fans during the ongoing 2026-2027 Malaysia League (M-League) season.

In an official statement released on Friday, October 16, 2026, the MFL confirmed that it held an online emergency coordination meeting to assess the latest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings and establish contingency protocols for scheduled league fixtures.

The virtual session was led by MFL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohd Shazli Shaik Mohd and MFL Chief Operating Officer Harris Taufieq Zafri, alongside MFL unit heads, representatives from the Amateur Football League (AFL), M-League club CEOs, and officials from participating teams.

During the session, league executives outlined standard operating procedures to mitigate environmental hazards if air quality deteriorates further across various states.

Mandatory Precautionary Protocols, Cooling Breaks, and Supporter Safety

The meeting established several operational guidelines for clubs hosting or traveling to matches during the haze outbreak:

  • Real-time API Monitoring: MFL CEO Mohd Shazli instructed all participating clubs to stay vigilant and actively track local API levels, particularly in the lead-up to scheduled match days.
  • In-Game Safety Measures: Matches proceeding under elevated API conditions will incorporate mandatory cooling breaks, the provision of specialized medical and logistical support at venues, and recommendations for the use of face masks by stadium staff.
  • Protection for Key Stakeholders: Precautionary frameworks apply comprehensively to players, coaching staff, match officials, venue operators, and spectators.
  • Supporter Advisory Campaigns: MFL encouraged member clubs to maintain continuous communication with fanbases, issuing localized safety updates and environmental health advice based on real-time atmospheric conditions.

The MFL stated that it will remain in direct contact with environmental authorities to adjust match schedules if local air quality readings reach hazardous thresholds.
