Perak Man Loses RM12.47 Million In Massive Cryptocurrency Wallet Hack

IPOH, Oct 10 – A 38-year-old man lost approximately RM12.47 million worth of cryptocurrency assets after his digital wallet was compromised in an unauthorized access incident.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed that the victim discovered the unauthorized transfer at around 1:00 PM on Friday, October 9, 2026, while in the Teluk Intan area.

Initial police findings indicate that the funds were transferred out of the victim’s digital wallet via a blockchain network without his knowledge, approval, or consent.

Police Investigation and Security Advice

Commercial crime investigators are currently working with specialized units to trace the stolen digital assets:

  • Specialist Unit Involvement: Perak police are collaborating directly with the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Crypto Unit to track the transaction flow and identify the hackers involved.
  • Statutory Investigation: The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a penalty of one to ten years imprisonment, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.
  • Public Cybersecurity Advisory: Datuk Mohd Alwi urged digital asset owners to remain vigilant against phishing links and online scams, implement strict digital security protocols, continuously monitor wallet activity, and report suspicious transactions immediately.

Authorities continue to analyze the blockchain transfer trail to determine the final destination of the stolen funds.
