SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 – The 51-year-old driver of a lorry involved in a 12-vehicle crash along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari in Alam Budiman, Shah Alam, tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine following a post-accident drug screening.
Shah Alam District Police Chief ACP Sarudin Samah confirmed the test results in a statement on Saturday, October 10, 2026, stating that the suspect has been detained for further investigation.
The suspect claimed to have experienced brake failure while driving downhill from Puncak Perdana toward Puncak Alam at approximately 4:20 PM on Friday, October 9, 2026.
According to police reports, the runaway lorry veered into oncoming traffic lanes and crashed into 11 other vehicles stopped at the traffic lights at the Alam Budiman T-junction.
Casualties, Hospitalization, and Statutory Investigation
The multi-vehicle collision caused severe injuries to one driver while hospitalizing two passengers:
- Critically Injured Victim: A 58-year-old man driving a Subaru XV SUV sustained severe head injuries and is undergoing emergency treatment in the red zone at UiTM Hospital Puncak Alam.
- Stable Passengers: The SUV driver’s 53-year-old wife and 17-year-old grandson suffered injuries and remain in stable condition at the same hospital.
- Additional Injuries: A 29-year-old man driving a Perodua Myvi sustained bodily injuries and is reported to be in stable condition.
- Legal Action & Court Proceedings: Police are investigating the crash under Section 44(1A)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with the driver brought to the Shah Alam Court for a remand application today.
- Public Information Appeal: Investigating officer Inspector Abdul Nasser Peping from the Shah Alam Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (012-286 3875) urged eyewitnesses with footage or information to assist the ongoing police investigation.
Video footage showing the heavy lorry driving against the flow of traffic prior to slamming into the line of stationary vehicles went viral on social media platforms on Friday evening.
