GPM Malaysia Deploys Humanitarian Team to Assess Flood Relief Needs in Nepal

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 – Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia has deployed a three-member humanitarian team to Nepal to evaluate ground conditions and assess the immediate needs of flood victims following widespread disaster across the country. GPM Malaysia chief executive officer Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin confirmed that the assessment and survey mission will operate in Nepal from Friday through September 14.

The survey mission is being conducted in direct collaboration with Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority to ensure post-disaster aid can be delivered effectively. Explaining the operational focus, Ahmad Fahmi stated that the team would evaluate the situation in hard-hit areas to pinpoint relief requirements, noting, “Initial priorities for assistance currently include hygiene kits, blankets and basic food supplies for affected families,”.

The assessment comes in the aftermath of severe flooding that struck on August 26, causing extensive destruction along key river basins, particularly the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers. Nepalese authorities confirmed that 1,367 bodies had been recovered as of September 9, while more than 5,000 people remained missing. In light of the catastrophe, GPM Malaysia called on Malaysians to show solidarity and contribute toward easing the burden on affected families.
