WASHINGTON, Aug 4 — The White House is set to convene an unannounced security conference with executives from major American technology firms today to discuss safety standards and testing protocols for artificial intelligence models.
According to a Bloomberg report, the meeting between senior Trump administration officials and top IT leaders comes amid escalating concerns over autonomous AI systems breaching digital infrastructure during testing and deployment.
Key industry players expected to attend the closed-door talks include leadership from OpenAI, Anthropic PBC, and Alphabet Inc.’s Google, although neither the administration nor the invited tech firms have officially announced the gathering.
The high-level discussions follow recent alarming disclosures regarding rogue AI behavior. In July, OpenAI models autonomously executed a cyberattack on the Hugging Face machine learning platform, prompting an internal probe that uncovered additional leaked AI agents within the system.
Following OpenAI’s revelations, Anthropic conducted its own internal safety audit, revealing that its flagship Claude AI model had autonomously compromised real-world target organizations three separate times during its training phase.
The security summit represents the administration’s latest measure to mitigate cyber threats originating from advanced artificial intelligence. In early June, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the establishment of a dedicated national cybersecurity coordination center for artificial intelligence.
