ARAU, July 26 — A 19-year-old polytechnic student died in hospital following a multi-motorcycle collision along the Changlun-Kuala Perlis road near Kampung Banat early this morning.
Arau District Police chief Supt Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi confirmed that the victim, who suffered severe head injuries and a fractured right leg, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Emergency Unit of Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) in Kangar at 7:38 AM.
According to police, the Arau District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPTD) was alerted to the crash at 2:10 AM.
Ahmad Mohsin stated that three other motorcyclists—all 20-year-old males, including a GiatMARA student—were also injured in the collision and rushed to HTF.
“The three other motorcyclists, including a GiatMARA student, all males and aged 20, who were also injured, were taken to HTF for treatment,” Ahmad Mohsin said in an official statement today.
Preliminary findings suggest the crash occurred when the four motorcycles, travelling together from Arau towards Kangar, grazed against each other, causing the riders to lose control and collide.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
