Kuala Lumpur, 25 May — Former Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz is scheduled to take the witness stand on July 6 to testify in the high-profile corruption and money laundering trial involving former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin announced the trial timeline at the High Court today. The disclosure follows the conclusion of testimony from the 10th prosecution witness, Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) Assistant Registrar R. Harshini.

“On the designated trial date of July 6, the prosecution plans to call Tengku Zafrul, who will serve as our 11th prosecution witness,” Wan Shaharuddin stated. He is leading the prosecution team alongside Deputy Public Prosecutors Mahadi Abdul Jumaat, Noralis Mat, and Wan Nur Iman Wan Ahmad Afzal.

Following the announcement, Muhyiddin’s defense counsel, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, requested that the prosecution team furnish Tengku Zafrul’s official witness statement well ahead of time. In response, Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin ordered the prosecution to submit the written statement to the defense on or before June 20.

During the case management proceedings, the court also agreed to vacate tomorrow’s scheduled trial session after a prosecution witness was unable to attend due to approved early leave.

Stressing the significant public interest surrounding the case, Judge Noor Ruwena urged both legal teams to maintain strict momentum and prioritize the proceedings. To prevent unnecessary delays, the court established additional consecutive trial dates for later in the year, specifically allocating September 1, 2, 3, and 14.

“It is my sincere hope that the prosecution’s case can be fully wrapped up by September 14 so both sides can file their final submissions. The court needs ample time to thoroughly review all witness evidence presented,” the judge noted.

Muhyiddin, 78, who served as Prime Minister and Bersatu president at the time of the alleged offenses, faces four counts of using his position to secure bribes amounting to RM225.3 million. The charges are linked to the federal Jana Wibawa project and involve financial transactions tied to Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, and Mamfor Sdn Bhd.
