GEORGE TOWN, July 9 — The federal government should consider forming quarterly dialogue sessions for companies and business associations to inform businesses on the new regulations as well as allow them to comment and provide feedback, the United States (US) Ambassador to Malaysia Brian McFeeters said.
He said feedback from business associations such as the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) pointed out the need for a better consultative mechanism in an effort to streamline the regulation implementation process.
“When the regulations popped up, the companies and business associations did not know the regulations were coming and they did not have the chance to consult on them. Furthermore, the implementation of the regulations can be confusing,” he said in a virtual press conference after a virtual meeting with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
He said the problem predated even before the COVID-19 pandemic hit Malaysia.
McFeeters added that the holding of quarterly dialogue sessions for companies and business associations in this regard would create no surprises for the companies and allow them to have better predictability on what could be expected.
