KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 2 – A 39-year-old woman, believed to be mentally disabled, lost her life after being struck by a vehicle on the Sultan Mahmud Bridge in Kuala Terengganu early Friday morning, October 2, 2026.
Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor stated that the police received an emergency call from a member of the public at 2:15 AM regarding a collision involving a Proton Waja and a pedestrian.
“Initial investigations found that the accident occurred when the driver, travelling from Gong Badak in Kuala Nerus towards Kampung Gong Sentul in Kuala Berang, hit a pedestrian who was lying in the middle of the road,” Azli said in an official statement.
“Due to the close distance, the driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian. Ainun Wahab, 39, died at the scene after suffering serious injuries to several parts of her body.”
The victim’s body was transported to the Forensic Department of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police are investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1957 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
