SEPANG, Nov 5 – Two police officers involved in an alleged assault incident at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on September 28, 2026, have filed a civil lawsuit against former Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.
According to an official statement issued by law firm Kamal Hisham & Associates on Thursday, November 5, 2026, the civil action was formally lodged at the Sepang Sessions Court on November 4, naming Mohd Shuhaily as the sole defendant.
“This is because the alleged assault was solely an act by Mohd Shuhaily in his personal capacity, without involving the Malaysian government,” the statement clarified. The plaintiffs have brought four distinct causes of action against Mohd Shuhaily: false imprisonment, assault, battery, and defamation.
“The plaintiffs are grateful to the Malaysian government for taking a clear and firm position in this case that everyone is bound by the existing rule of law,” the legal team added, expressing confidence in the court system.
The civil filing follows administrative action by the government. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail previously announced that the Home Ministry decided Mohd Shuhaily would be reassigned back to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). He had originally been appointed AKPS Director-General for a two-year tenure running from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027.
On October 21, 2026, Mohd Shuhaily pleaded not guilty at the Sepang Magistrate’s Court to two criminal charges of voluntarily causing hurt to the two police officers during the September 28 incident at KLIA.
