Two Kidnap Suspects Killed, Foreign Victims Saved in High-Stakes Police Shootout in Alor Setar

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 — Two suspected foreign nationals were killed in a high-stakes shootout with police during an elite operation that successfully rescued two kidnapped foreigners at a residential house in Taman Amira, Telaga Bata, Alor Setar, Kedah, last night.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Datuk M. Kumar revealed that the tactical encounter occurred at approximately 8.40 pm when the suspects opened fire on officers from the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Division (D9).

The police officers returned fire in self-defense to neutralize the immediate threat, leaving both suspects fatally wounded.

“The raiding team returned fire in self-defence until the threat was neutralised. Both suspects were confirmed dead by medical personnel at about 9.30 pm and no identification documents were found on them,” Datuk M. Kumar said in an official statement today.

Inside the premises, police officers safely secured the two victims—a foreign man in his 70s and a foreign woman in her 30s—who were found blindfolded and handcuffed.

A search of the crime scene recovered a loaded Beretta semi-automatic pistol containing five rounds of live ammunition, a revolver loaded with four rounds, and a long machete adjacent to the slain suspects.

Following the shootout, Bukit Aman CID executed a series of synchronized, multi-state raids across Kedah, Penang, and Kuala Lumpur, leading to the arrest of six additional suspects aged between their 20s and 40s, comprising one local man, four foreign men, and one foreign woman.

“An application to remand all the suspects will be made today under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, while the case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the same Act for kidnapping for ransom,” Kumar explained.

The CID chief emphasized that the investigation remains active and advised members of the public against engaging in speculation or disseminating unverified information that could disrupt ongoing police proceedings or cause public alarm.

A formal press conference detailing full findings from the operation and investigation will be convened on Monday, August 10.
