KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 – Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Tuesday for observation following the passing of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
His son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, confirmed that there is no cause for serious concern regarding the 101-year-old former leader’s health, noting that the admission was a precautionary measure to allow doctors to monitor him.
“He was admitted to IJN for observation. The past two days have been quite stressful for Tun M, but for now, he is okay and there is no cause for concern,” Mokhzani said when contacted on Wednesday.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, 100, passed away at IJN on Monday morning, September 28. She was laid to rest with full State Funeral honours at the Pusara Negara (National Cemetery) in Precinct 20, Putrajaya, later that afternoon.
Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir previously shared that his father had remained continuously at IJN to accompany Tun Dr Siti Hasmah throughout her medical treatment up until her passing.
Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah were married on August 5, 1956, and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary earlier this year. They are survived by their seven children.
