KUCHING, Aug 11 — Air quality across Sarawak deteriorated further this morning as transboundary haze pushed Air Pollutant Index (API) readings into unhealthy levels across 11 localities in the state.
According to latest data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Serian registered the highest API reading in the state at 189, followed closely by Samarahan at 170 and the state capital Kuching at 166.
Other affected areas logging unhealthy air quality include Bintulu (159), Samalaju (156), Mukah (154), Sibu (154), Sarikei (153), Sri Aman (152), Miri (137), and the Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP) station at 116.
Under national environmental benchmarks, an API reading of zero to 50 denotes good air quality, 51 to 100 indicates moderate levels, 101 to 200 represents unhealthy conditions, 201 to 300 is classified as very unhealthy, while any reading exceeding 300 is deemed hazardous.
The APIMS portal updates air quality statistics on an hourly basis, aggregating data gathered from 68 continuous monitoring stations operating nationwide.
