KOTA KINABALU, Aug 21 — Three family members, including an elderly woman, her son, and her granddaughter, were found charred to death in a devastating early morning house fire in Kampung Darau Menggatal today. A fourth victim, the granddaughter’s husband, survived with severe burns.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre confirmed that the deceased were identified as 67-year-old Loupin Adow, her 50-year-old son Azman Maduin, and her 29-year-old granddaughter Nurul Asyiqin Alinor.
Nurul Asyiqin’s 34-year-old husband sustained severe burn injuries across his body during the inferno and was rushed to the hospital via an Emergency Medical Services (EMRS) vehicle for emergency medical treatment.
The JBPM Operations Centre stated that a distress call reporting the blaze was received at 1:43 am.
“The first engine from the Lintas Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) arrived at the location at 1.50 am.
“The results of the on-site inspection of the completely destroyed house found the three dead victims while one victim who suffered burns was sent to the hospital by the Emergency Medical Services (EMRS) engine for further treatment,” the statement read.
Firefighting crews executed a suppression operation utilizing two 200-foot hose streams connected to two water jets fed directly from fire engine tanks. Emergency personnel successfully brought the blaze under control by 2:10 am, with overhaul and dousing operations officially concluding at 5:19 am.
A total of 17 firefighters—comprising personnel from BBP Lintas equipped with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), an EMRS vehicle, and three four-wheel-drive support vehicles—were deployed to the scene.
The joint suppression and rescue effort was supported by nine personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), three medical officers from the Ministry of Health (MOH), and two technicians from Sabah Electricity.
