KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — Six local men are scheduled to be charged at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court in Selangor tomorrow morning in connection with the high-profile kidnapping of a 44-year-old man for a RM7 million ransom.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar confirmed that investigations involving eight suspects have been concluded. The investigation paper was submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Friday, which subsequently issued instructions to proceed with prosecution.

According to Kumar, six of the suspects will be charged under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961, which addresses abductions carried out for ransom. The remaining two individuals—a local man and a local woman—have been released on bond under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code and will serve as prosecution witnesses.

“The charges will be brought at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court at 9.30 am tomorrow,” Kumar said in a statement released today.

The court appearance follows a series of police operations after the victim was abducted on July 17. On July 19, police rescued the victim and initially arrested six suspects aged between 30 and 46, including a woman, during a targeted raid in Selangor.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects in Selangor, including a former policeman in his 30s who was dismissed from the force in 2023 and is believed to have been involved in the abduction.

In a notable twist to the case, Kumar previously revealed last Wednesday that the rescued victim himself was subsequently detained under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 after police investigations uncovered evidence linking him to a drug syndicate.

Reiterating the force’s stance on violent crime, Kumar emphasized that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) remains resolute in pursuing criminal elements to maintain public safety. He also urged members of the public to continue providing actionable information to assist law enforcement in curbing criminal activities.
