KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — A forest fire on a hillside near the Desaminium Rimba Apartments in Seri Kembangan, which had been brought under control earlier in the day, reignited tonight, according to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).
JBPM Assistant Director (Operations) Ashrul Riezal Asbar stated that the reignited fire was detected across a hillside area covering an estimated 0.09 hectares. Firefighting crews are currently conducting containment operations to prevent the flames from reaching nearby residential housing.
“The incident involves a forest fire on a hillside, and containment and firefighting efforts are underway,” Ashrul Riezal said in a statement tonight.
However, he highlighted that nighttime firefighting operations face significant difficulties due to the lack of an access route to the site and pitch-black conditions.
To assist in the operation, JBPM deployed a drone unit for aerial monitoring alongside eight firefighters, a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
The department initially received an emergency call regarding the hilltop fire at 3:03 pm, with personnel arriving on-site by 3:12 pm. The afternoon blaze, which affected approximately two acres of forest, was successfully extinguished by 6:30 pm with no casualties reported before the secondary fire broke out tonight.
Nearby resident Nurran Husaini told NMT that he hopes the situation will be resolved soon as the heavy smoke are adding on to the already unhealthy air quality.
