PENAMPANG, Oct 2 – A total of 118 flood victims from 41 families were evacuated to four temporary relief centres in Penampang on Friday morning, October 2, 2026, following continuous heavy overnight rainfall.
Penampang District Disaster Management Committee chairman Noemi Dyena John Tren officially declared the flood situation a disaster at 10:40 PM on Thursday, October 1, following ground reports from emergency agencies.
According to a statement by the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee, Sungai Moyog breached safety thresholds, reaching a critical level of 9.12 metres, which exceeds the designated danger level.
Breakdown of Temporary Relief Centres
Evacuees have been relocated to four designated shelters across the district:
- Penampang Sports Complex: Sheltering 40 victims from seven families.
- Huguan Siou Hall: Housing 31 victims from 11 families.
- Penampang Parish Hall: Accommodating 29 victims from 16 families.
- St Paul Kolopis: Housing 18 victims from seven families.
Affected Villages and Roads
The floods have inundated 15 villages, including Kampung Penampang Proper, Kampung Kolopis, Kampung Sarapung, Kampung Dabak, Kampung Tanaki, Kampung Pagansakan, Kampung Nambazan, Kampung Huba, Kampung Kibabaig, Kampung Limbanak, Kampung Penampang Kondis, Kampung Sugud, Kampung Pinapah, Vista Kiranau, and Kampung Kambau.
Additionally, 12 major roadways remain flooded but passable to traffic:

- Jalan Vista Kiranau
- Jalan Inobong
- Jalan Kampung Putaton
- Pagansakan Bridge
- Jalan Sarapung
- Jalan Kolopis-Boliga
- Jalan Bantazon-Kolopis

- Jalan Huba-Nambazan
- Jalan Panglima Banting
- Jalan Kasigui
Local authorities, security forces, and disaster management agencies remain on high alert, closely monitoring water levels and vulnerable areas across Penampang to ensure public safety.
