KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 – A total of 5,862 domestic violence cases were recorded by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) between January and September 2026, underlining the urgent need for multi-agency collaboration and comprehensive social intervention.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri disclosed the statistics on Thursday, November 5, 2026, during her opening speech at the Symposium on Strengthening Policies to Address the Reality of Domestic Violence: Facing Challenges and Empowering Family Institutions in Kuala Lumpur.
Nancy revealed that nationwide domestic violence cases had previously risen by 3.9 per cent in 2025 to 7,391 cases, compared to 7,116 cases recorded in 2024.
“Behind every one of these figures are individuals and families, including children, who need protection, support and rehabilitation,” Nancy emphasized, pointing out that domestic abuse extends beyond physical harm to encompass psychological abuse, sexual violence, confinement, property damage, and financial manipulation.
She also highlighted that rapid technological advancements have birthed digital domestic abuse, including tech-enabled harassment, online intimidation, and digital surveillance targeting victims.
To address evolving social risks, mental health challenges, and shifting family dynamics, the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) launched the National Family Compassion Policy (DKKN) 2026–2030.
Additionally, KPWKM is strengthening victim support ecosystems through key targeted programs, including the Social Welfare Department’s Wonderful Life initiative, the Women’s Well-being Advocacy Programme @ Domestic Violence by the Women’s Development Department, and the expansion of the WAJA Squad Volunteer Programme.
“Domestic violence is a national issue, we need ecosystem synergy, a spirit of teamwork and collaboration across ministries, agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and all segments of society,” Nancy urged.
The policy symposium is structured into two regional phases, with the first session taking place in Kuala Lumpur on November 5–6, 2026, followed by a second session in Kelantan later in mid-November.
