KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 – An estimated 3.28 million vehicles are projected to travel on major highways across Malaysia daily during the peak travel window for the upcoming Deepavali celebration on Sunday, November 8, 2026.
Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) Director-General Ir. Mohd Hadzmir Yusoff announced on Thursday, November 5, 2026, that highway traffic volume is expected to rise sharply from today as motorists travel toward the East Coast, northern, and southern states.
The North-South Expressway (PLUS) network is projected to absorb the highest volume with 2.24 million vehicles daily. This is followed by the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) with 288,000 vehicles, the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) with 190,000, and the West Coast Expressway (WCE) with 168,000.
The Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) and the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (LEKAS) are each expected to carry 135,000 vehicles daily, while the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) and Phase 2 (LPT2) are projected to record 83,000 and 44,000 vehicles, respectively.
Mohd Hadzmir noted that LLM welcomes the government’s 50 per cent toll discount initiative for Class 1 private vehicles (Class 2 on the Penang Bridge), which runs for two days from 12:01 AM on Friday, November 6, to 11:59 PM on Saturday, November 7. The discount applies to all highways nationwide except for border entry points at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and Tanjung Kupang (LINKEDUA) toll plazas.
To facilitate smooth traffic flow, LLM has directed highway concessionaires to halt non-emergency maintenance works involving lane closures from November 6 to 10. Concessionaires have also been instructed to deploy additional mobile toilets, expand parking space at major Rest and Service Areas (R&Rs), and maintain clean, uninterrupted water and fuel supplies.
Concessionaire PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) indicated that return travel traffic heading back toward the Klang Valley is projected to peak on November 9 and 10 as holidaymakers return. PLUS has activated Smart Lanes across 32 designated locations to allow temporary use of emergency lanes, and urged motorists to use the MyPLUS Travel Time Advisory (MyPLUS-TTA) to time their journeys. Highway users can also use JustGO—Malaysia’s Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)-based toll payment system—available across all PLUS plazas except BSI and LPT2.
For East Coast-bound commuters, concessionaire AFA Prime Berhad (AFA Prime) has activated its Travel Time Advisory schedule for KLK and LPT1. Managing Director Ahmad Faizi Latifi Ahmad Faiz encouraged motorists to travel during off-peak hours between midnight and 6:00 AM. Real-time traffic information remains accessible via official X handles (@plustrafik and @llminfotrafik), the toll-free PLUSLine (1-800-88-0000), LLM line (1-800-88-7752), and the LLM traffic portal.
