MELAKA, Aug 13 — More than 2,500 delegates and 3,000 observers will gather at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh tomorrow for the opening of the 2026 PKR National Congress.
The annual convention will commence with PKR Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar officiating the joint opening of the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) youth wing and Wanita PKR assemblies.
Main proceedings will culminate on Saturday with the formal congress opening, where PKR President and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will deliver his key presidential policy speech.
Reflecting international interest and diplomatic engagement, foreign envoys representing key nations—including the United States, China, Japan, and Australia—have confirmed their attendance alongside senior leaders from various Malaysian political parties.
Framed around the central theme “Memugar Reformasi, Membina MADANI,” the 2026 congress aims to reinvigorate the reformist spirit that underpinned Keadilan’s establishment while aligning its political priorities with the challenges of building Malaysia MADANI.
PKR 2026 National Congress Director Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad stated that floor debates will focus heavily on national economic strategy, educational improvements, and political developments, with 16 designated debaters representing party wings and state chapters set to deliberate on the president’s address.
In keeping with party tradition, the congress will present the Bill Kayong Award to five families in recognition of late party members who dedicated their lives to serving Keadilan until their passing.
The multi-day event is supported by several government departments and enforcement agencies, including the National Registration Department, the Immigration Department, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and the Registrar of Societies (RoS). Additionally, the Melaka Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) branch is holding a Mega Rahmah Carnival at the venue, offering direct services and subsidized goods to delegates, observers, and local residents.
Anwar is scheduled to deliver his winding-up speech on Sunday before formally adjourning the national assembly.
