KUALA PILAH, July 14 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) officially entered the electoral battleground tonight by introducing its full slate of 36 candidates for the highly anticipated 16th Negeri Sembilan state election. The strategic lineup features high-profile changes, most notably the redeployment of incumbent Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to spearhead a critical seat defense.
Aminuddin, who serves as the state’s PH chief, was surprisingly named as the coalition’s point man for the Linggi state seat. The announcement marks a significant geographical shift for the veteran politician. He has continuously represented the Sikamat constituency for four consecutive terms ever since his initial victory in 2008.
The massive candidate announcement ceremony was held in Kuala Pilah. It drew thousands of loud supporters and featured key national coalition heavyweights. PH Chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim personally revealed the state candidates alongside Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, PH Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, and Election Director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Anwar told the crowd that tonight’s ceremony marked an excellent start for the coalition’s campaign. He expressed strong optimism that local voters would grant PH a clear mandate to continue enhancing development and socioeconomic well-being across the state.
Beyond the Menteri Besar’s shifting role, the line-up locks in key senior cabinet members to retain their traditional strongholds. DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke will officially stand to defend the Chennah seat, an influential constituency he has successfully held since 2013.
The official roadmap for the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election has already been formalised by the Election Commission (EC). Aspiring candidates are scheduled to register on nomination day this Saturday, July 18, with early voting set for July 28 ahead of the final polling day on August 1.
The coalition is launching an aggressive campaign to improve its legislative standing. PH is contesting all 36 available seats in the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly. During the previous regional elections held in August 2023, PH captured 17 seats, while Barisan Nasional secured 14, and Perikatan Nasional walked away with five.
The finalized distribution of Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan candidates features a mix of component parties across the federal constituencies:
