KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is seeking legal advice and evaluating his options to fulfill the RM50 million fine required for him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

In a statement issued today, law firm Messrs Shafee & Co explained that their client’s ability to satisfy the financial condition is partly dependent on factors beyond his immediate control, as a significant portion of his assets, bank accounts, and properties remain subject to government freezing orders and ongoing legal enforcement proceedings.

The legal team emphasized that because the royal pardon is conditional upon satisfying the fine, Najib will remain incarcerated at Kajang Prison until the amount is paid to the court.

“Our client and our legal team are presently studying those terms and their practical implications,” the law firm stated, adding that Najib expressed his highest gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for exercising royal clemency, as well as thanking the Federal Territories Pardons Board.

The statement noted that Najib also expressed deep appreciation to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, UMNO and Barisan Nasional leadership, and members of the public who have offered financial assistance to help meet the fine.

However, while deeply touched by these gestures of solidarity, Najib stated that he does not want his party, supporters, or the general public to feel obligated or burdened on his account, while requesting privacy for his family as the legal team studies the situation further.
