Mobile Police Station to Be Deployed Near Najib’s Residence Ahead of House Arrest Transfer

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — A mobile police station will be stationed near former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s official residence in Langgak Duta starting tomorrow morning to manage security and traffic during his anticipated transfer from prison.

Sentul District Police Chief ACP Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam clarified that the mobile unit, scheduled for deployment from 7:00 am, is not intended to provide round-the-clock security for Najib, but rather to oversee logistics surrounding media presence, neighborhood access, traffic control, and crowd management.

“The mobile police station is not for the purpose of providing 24-hour security for Datuk Seri Najib,” Anuar Bakri stated when contacted today. “It is to provide security during his return process, including for local and foreign media, neighbours, and to prevent traffic congestion and the presence of supporters.”

Anuar Bakri noted that while police have yet to receive official confirmation that the Langgak Duta residence has been finalized as the house arrest site, the property falls under his district’s jurisdiction, with other potential residences belonging to the former prime minister also under consideration.

He emphasized that primary monitoring responsibilities for Najib during his house arrest will rest with the Malaysian Prisons Department rather than the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Four prison officials inspected the residence yesterday to assess security parameters, while PDRM’s role remains focused on facilitating transport logistics and maintaining public safety, supported by a supervisor, two officers, and a mobile patrol vehicle unit.

The deployment follows statements from Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, who indicated that standard operating procedures governing visits, movement monitoring, and security arrangements will be finalized once official documentation is processed.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, consented to a conditional pardon permitting Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of an RM50 million fine. The decision was formalized during the 64th meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board. Najib has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, following his conviction in the SRC International case.
