IPOH, Aug 2 — The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) recovered an unidentified male body floating in waters off Tanjung Hantu near Pulau Pangkor yesterday.
Perak MMEA Director Maritime Captain Mohamad Shukri Khotob confirmed that the agency received a report regarding the discovery at 10:31 am. In response, MMEA dispatched its patrol vessel, Bot Penggalang 1639, to the location situated approximately 1.3 nautical miles southwest of Tanjung Hantu.
The deceased individual, clad in a black shirt and shorts, is believed to be an Indonesian national.
Following the retrieval operation, maritime personnel transported the body to the Kampung Acheh Fisheries Jetty before handing it over to the police for formal identification, post-mortem examination, and further investigation.
In light of the incident, Mohamad Shukri advised members of the maritime community and the general public to report any information regarding emergencies, accidents, or suspicious activities at sea by contacting the Perak Maritime Headquarters Operations Centre at 05-683 8737 or dialing the 999 emergency hotline.
