AYER KEROH, Sept 22 – Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh is expected to announce the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly today at 2:00 PM, paving the way for the 16th Melaka state election.
The official announcement will take place at Kompleks Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh.
Speculation surrounding the assembly’s dissolution intensified after the state executive council meeting, typically scheduled for Wednesdays, was moved forward by a day. Ab Rauf chaired the rescheduled meeting at noon today.
Following the executive meeting, the Chief Minister’s Office issued an invitation to members of the media for a press conference at 2:00 PM.
During the previous state election in 2021, Barisan Nasional secured a two-thirds majority by winning 21 out of the 28 seats contested. Pakatan Harapan won five seats, while Perikatan Nasional secured two.
The current term of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly was originally scheduled to expire on Dec 27.
