Barisan Nasional (BN) is open to discussions regarding electoral cooperation with any political party for the upcoming Melaka state election, including welcoming partners interested in contesting under the coalition’s logo.
Speaking at a press conference following the groundbreaking ceremony for an additional building at the Islamic Orphans’ Hostel in Kota Tinggi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, UMNO Vice-President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin emphasized that any potential alignment must adhere to established coalition policies.
“I am answering in general terms. If, for example, any party is prepared to contest using the BN logo, we would very much welcome it,” Mohamed Khaled stated, noting that any formal partnership remains subject to fundamental decisions made by BN’s top leadership.
Dissolution and Key Electoral Dates
The state poll follows the dissolution of the 28-seat Melaka State Legislative Assembly on September 23, 2026.
Key milestones ahead for the state election include:
- EC Special Meeting: The Election Commission (EC) will convene a special meeting on October 7, 2026, to determine crucial operational dates, including writ issuance, nomination day, and official polling day.
- Coalition Vetting: The announcement follows earlier statements from UMNO leadership indicating that BN candidates will undergo a multi-tier screening process before official endorsement.
