ALOR GAJAH, Oct 2 – UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has recommended that Barisan Nasional (BN) announce its line-up of candidates early for the upcoming Melaka state election.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, October 2, 2026, Ahmad—who also serves as the UMNO War Room Secretariat chief—explained that an early announcement would allow shortlisted candidates adequate time to make necessary preparations and engage with voters across their respective constituencies.

“The earlier, the better. We hope the best candidates will be fielded, whether they are incumbents or new faces,” Ahmad stated following a project handover ceremony by the Public Works Department (JKR) to the Ministry of Education at SMK Durian Tunggal in Alor Gajah.

Candidate Screening Process

Ahmad, who is also the Deputy Public Works Minister, detailed that BN’s prospective candidates for the Melaka state election will undergo a rigorous selection process prior to official endorsement.

Key details regarding the candidate selection process include:

  • Three-Level Screening: Shortlisted candidates will be required to pass three distinct levels of vetting.
  • Final Authorization: The ultimate decision on candidate selection will rest with BN’s top leadership.
  • Candidate Profile: The final list will feature a blend of experienced incumbents alongside new faces.
