PUTRAJAYA, July 25 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched a thorough investigation into a Facebook post containing 3R (race, religion, and royalty) content that allegedly insults Islam, following the receipt of a formal complaint.

In an official statement released today, the regulatory commission affirmed that it will not compromise on any unlawful misuse of communication platforms that breaches national laws.

The commission disclosed that it is collaborating closely with the police and remains prepared to provide technical assistance and digital forensic expertise to support ongoing law enforcement inquiries.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which provides for a maximum fine of RM500,000, an imprisonment term of up to two years, or both upon conviction.

Emphasizing the gravity of online misconduct, MCMC warned that the dissemination of such inflammatory material is viewed with utmost seriousness due to its potential to incite hatred, erode social unity, and threaten racial harmony in the country.

The regulator reminded members of the public to utilize social media platforms responsibly and ethically, advising against uploading, sharing, or spreading content that is grossly offensive, insulting, or provocative, particularly regarding religious matters.
