PUTRAJAYA, Oct 2 – Malaysia’s second-place global ranking for passport strength reflects international confidence in the stability, security, and integrity of the nation’s systems, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Writing in a Facebook post on Friday, October 2, 2026, Saifuddin Nasution highlighted that the recognition brings tangible advantages to citizens by facilitating broader international travel while opening up global opportunities in education, employment, trade, and investment.
“Under the MADANI Economy framework, among the country’s key focuses is to raise the country’s growth ceiling by expanding its international reach, strengthening its diplomatic standing and enhancing Malaysia’s competitiveness on the world stage,” he stated.
Expanded Mobility and Economic Impact
The Malaysian passport rose to second place in The Passport Index Global Ranking 2026, climbing from third position in the previous year.
Key aspects of the ranking and its economic impact include:
- Global Access: Malaysian passport holders now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 175 destinations worldwide.
- Business Expansion: The increased mobility allows Malaysian entrepreneurs to explore new markets, build international business networks, and drive domestic economic opportunities.
- System Integrity: The achievement is attributed to ongoing security and integrity enhancements implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM).
Saifuddin Nasution affirmed that KDN and JIM will continue to safeguard the security standards of Malaysian travel documents while utilizing the milestone as momentum to further improve public service efficiency and administrative integrity.
