MACC Orders Former Minister Saravanan and Family to Declare Assets Within 30 Days

PUTRAJAYA, 25 Sept – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will issue official notices under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009 to former Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, his wife, and their three children, requiring them to declare their assets within a 30-day timeframe.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed that the asset declaration notices will be formally served on Monday at the MACC headquarters to Saravanan, his wife, and two of their children, while a third child currently studying abroad in London will receive the notice in November.

“They have been informed and will attend the MACC headquarters for the delivery of the notices,” Abd Halim said. “A period of 30 days is given, and if that period is insufficient, an extension will be granted if they apply.”

The Chief Commissioner announced the enforcement action during a press conference following the closing ceremony of the 5th National Level Research Conference on Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption 2026 on Friday.

Saravanan was previously charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with three counts of receiving bribes totaling nearly RM1.09 million in exchange for approving a quota of 1,000 foreign workers for a company four years ago.

In a separate update, Abd Halim stated that the commission has not yet received the asset declarations from former Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and his family members.

“We just submitted the notices on Sept 15. Wait for a month,” Abd Halim explained, noting that the asset declaration notices to Abdul Azeez and his family were issued under Section 49 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA).
