KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 – Bursa Malaysia ended virtually unchanged on Friday as broader market sentiment remained cautious, under pressure from rising US Treasury yields and ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
At 5:00 PM, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) edged down 0.69 of a point, or 0.04 percent, to settle at 1,671.62 compared to Thursday’s close of 1,672.31.
The benchmark index opened 2.56 points higher at 1,674.87 and fluctuated between an intraday low of 1,666.99 and a high of 1,675.47.
Market breadth was slightly negative, with decliners outnumbering gainers 590 to 575, while 534 counters traded flat, 1,224 were untraded, and 43 were suspended.
Total turnover expanded to 4.07 billion units valued at RM2.69 billion compared to 3.32 billion units worth RM2.74 billion recorded on Thursday.
Among market heavyweights, Maybank gained 10 sen to RM10.22 and Tenaga Nasional added eight sen to RM13.14. Conversely, Public Bank slipped two sen to RM4.80, CIMB lost six sen to RM7.90, and IHH Healthcare dropped three sen to RM8.03.
Aimax led active trade, falling half a sen to 0.5 sen, while Zetrix AI closed flat at 19 sen and Velesto Energy dipped one sen to 22 sen. Top Glove dropped 2.5 sen to 75.5 sen, while Cypark Resources added five sen to 82 sen.
Malaysian Pacific Industries topped the gainers’ list, surging 68 sen to RM44.18, followed by Batu Kawan, which added 50 sen to RM20.50, and UWC, which rose 37 sen to RM6.88. Hong Leong Industries advanced 30 sen to RM16.96, while Southern Cable gained 29 sen to RM2.88.
On the losing side, Nestle dropped RM1.26 to RM90.20, United Plantations cut 52 sen to RM32.58, and Petronas Dagangan slid 50 sen to RM19.50. Dutch Lady Milk Industries slipped 36 sen to RM30.00, while Sarawak Oil Palms lost 25 sen to RM5.73.
On the index board, the FBM Mid 70 Index rose 90.10 points to 17,844.91, the FBM Emas Index gained 15.37 points to 12,456.64, the FBM Top 100 Index climbed 12.21 points to 12,243.46, the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 14.51 points to 12,306.23, and the FBM ACE Index advanced 95.53 points to 5,532.86.
Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index dipped 0.24 of a point to 184.10, the Plantation Index fell 56.41 points to 9,334.87, and the Financial Services Index lost 4.37 points to 19,550.49. Supported by elevated oil prices, the Energy Index gained 1.40 points to 861.83.
Main Market volume rose to 2.53 billion units worth RM2.24 billion compared to 2.09 billion units valued at RM2.42 billion on Thursday. Warrant turnover increased to 999.87 million units worth RM180.99 million, while the ACE Market volume expanded to 539.02 million units valued at RM264.01 million.
