TRIPOLI, Oct 5 – Libya’s Ministry of Economy and Trade has implemented strict new export regulations, placing an immediate ban on the export and re-export of agricultural produce, locally manufactured food items, and imported goods.
In an official statement released on Sunday, October 4, 2026, Minister of Economy and Trade Suhail Abu Shiha confirmed the issuance of a regulatory decision aimed at stabilizing supply chains and safeguarding food security across the country.
Key Trade Restrictions and Exemptions
The emergency trade measures establish specific guidelines governing foreign trade and domestic inventory control:
- Agricultural Export Ban: The export of all domestically grown agricultural produce is strictly prohibited, with dates designated as the sole exception.
- Local Food Supplies: All exports of locally produced food items are suspended until domestic market conditions and prices stabilize.
- Re-Export Prohibition: The re-export of all categories of imported commodities and consumer products is completely banned.
Ministry officials emphasized that the decision forms part of broader government interventions to protect domestic consumers, maintain adequate reserves of essential foodstuffs, and curb localized price volatility.
