KUSKOP Targets at Least 10 MADANI Sales Events in Penang to Ease Cost of Living

GEORGETOWN, Sept 13 – The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) is targeting to organize at least 10 KUSKOP MADANI Sales events across Penang this year to help alleviate the public’s cost-of-living pressures.

Speaking to reporters after officiating the KUSKOP MADANI Sales program in Seri Delima on Sunday, KUSKOP Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong stated that seven such sales events have been held in Penang to date. He noted that the ministry plans to expand the initiative to additional localities based on community needs and site suitability, saying, “In Penang, we will try to launch at least 10 (KUSKOP Madani Sales), but we will also look at the needs and suitability.”

Sim outlined that the programme serves three core objectives: enabling consumers to purchase essential groceries and daily goods at discounted prices, creating commercial avenues for local traders and micro-entrepreneurs, and bringing government agency services directly into residential neighborhoods. Over 80 categories of daily necessities—including fresh produce, meat, food products, and household cleaning items—are offered at discounts of up to 30 per cent. “At the same time, we also bring government agencies here so that residents do not have to go to government offices. Instead, the government offices come to their communities to provide services directly,” Sim explained.

Additionally, Sim commended a youth-led initiative operating at the event. A group of university and college students who previously participated in his adopted-child programme set up sales stalls to raise funds for underprivileged students. “I am very proud of their initiative. Although they are still studying, they have taken the initiative to help other people who are struggling,” he remarked.

Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan, who was also present, noted that the event marked the first KUSKOP MADANI Sales held in her constituency and expressed optimism for future editions. She added that visiting residents were provided with additional RM5 discount vouchers to further subsidize their purchases.
