JELEBU, July 23 — DAP Assistant Secretary-General Hannah Yeoh has likened the political cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) to the ill-fated Titanic, warning voters that the alliance is bound to sink due to mutual betrayal and competing leadership ambitions.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Kuala Klawang to support Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Datuk Ir. Bakri Sawir in defending the Klawang state seat, Yeoh urged voters not to be alarmed or overly excited by the political maneuvering between BN and PN.
Yeoh emphasized that effective governance requires a “politics of friendship” built on genuine loyalty, arguing that the BN-PN relationship lacks foundational trust and stability.
“I reminded those present not to worry or get excited seeing the cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN),” Yeoh stated in a social media update detailing her campaign appearance. “That cooperation will not last long because it is shadowed by betrayal and by those who are not loyal to a politics of friendship.”
Drawing a direct analogy to the iconic maritime disaster, Yeoh described how internal rivalries within both coalitions would inevitably collide with political reality.
“I compared their cooperation to the ship in the movie Titanic, which could sink at any moment. They cheered with joy at the start of the voyage, but ultimately sank after hitting a massive iceberg directly ahead that they failed to see,” she explained.
“Each harbors ambitions to become Prime Minister and will step on one another to rise to the top. They do not want their partner to succeed; they only want to elevate their own respective leadership. That is the comparison for the BN and PN cooperation today—they are like the Titanic, merely waiting to sink because they lack the value of a politics of friendship.”
In contrast, Yeoh underscored the proven track record of Pakatan Harapan, pointing to the sustained cohesion among component parties PKR, Amanah, and DAP in supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Our loyalty to this partnership is proven. We in Harapan — PKR, Amanah, and DAP — remained loyal in fighting for and defending Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim until he was elevated to become the 10th Prime Minister today. We remain with only one captain at the helm,” Yeoh said.
She urged electors to endorse PH candidates as a stand for political integrity and enduring governance.
“Ensuring victory for Harapan candidates symbolizes our defense of the value of a politics of friendship. This is something absent in any political alliance other than Pakatan Harapan. Retain Harapan, and you will retain a government and leaders who are loyal to this politics of friendship. Trust me,” she concluded.
