Government Restores BUDI95 Monthly Quota to 300 Litres Effective Sept 1, Says PM Anwar

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 30 — The government has agreed to restore the basic monthly quota under the Budi MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme to 300 litres effective Sept 1, benefiting more than 16 million subsidised fuel users, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.

Delivering his National Day address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Anwar stated that more than half a million eligible owners of diesel-powered pick-up trucks and jeeps will also receive up to 400 litres of Budi Diesel per month. The decision reverses an earlier measure announced on March 26 that temporarily reduced the monthly BUDI95 quota from 300 litres to 200 litres starting April 1 amid market volatility from the West Asian crisis, while keeping the subsidised RON95 price locked at RM1.99 per litre.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, explained that the decision was made to provide immediate relief against rising cost-of-living pressures without delaying assistance until the upcoming tabling of Budget 2027. He emphasized that the MADANI Government remains dedicated to supporting all economic tiers, noting that national petrol and diesel subsidies—which incur a government expenditure of up to RM40 billion—continue to benefit the broader public, including the M40 and T20 income groups.

“Cost-of-living pressures do not wait until October, and businesses need to grow now; they cannot wait until October,” Anwar said.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that while existing government measures have offered support, further action is necessary to safeguard public welfare, reiterating that the dividends of the nation’s economic growth must be channeled directly back to the people.
