Former Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming Resigns From DAP

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — Former Bangi Member of Parliament Dr Ong Kian Ming has announced his official resignation as a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), effective today.

In a statement posted on his social media, Ong confirmed that he had officially conveyed his decision to DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook and DAP National Organising Secretary Khoo Poay Tiong. Reflecting on his political career, Ong expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to both the party and the nation across various leadership roles since joining DAP in 2012.

During his time with the party, Ong served as MP for Serdang from 2013 to 2018 and later as MP for Bangi from 2018 to 2022. He was appointed Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) under the Pakatan Harapan administration from 2018 to 2020, alongside internal leadership roles within the DAP Central Executive Committee and the DAP Selangor state committee.

Addressing his future direction, Ong stated that he has no immediate plans to join another political party and will not contest as a candidate in the 16th General Election (GE16). He added that he intends to continue serving the nation’s interests through alternative platforms outside frontline politics.
