Dewan Rakyat: Sick Projects, P. Ramlee Works’ Copyright Among Issues In Focus Today

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7  – Strengthening contractor selection criteria and addressing delays in government projects are among the primary matters scheduled for debate in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday.

According to the Order Paper on the official Parliament website, Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) will question the Works Minister regarding proactive measures and new mechanisms to resolve financial and managerial weaknesses among contractors handling “sick projects”.

The parliamentary session will also cover legislative updates, school session preparations, cultural heritage preservation, and financial governance.

Key Order Paper Items and Parliamentary Debates

Key issues raised during Wednesday’s Question and Answer session include:

  • Parental Care Bill & Social Protection: Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) will ask the Women, Family and Community Development Minister for status updates on the proposed Parental Care Bill and mechanisms to safeguard senior citizens as Malaysia shifts toward an ageing population.
  • 2027 School Intake Preparedness: Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-Port Dickson) will inquire about the Education Ministry’s readiness to handle the simultaneous intake of six- and seven-year-old pupils entering Year One for the 2027 academic session.
  • P. Ramlee Film Rights: Onn Abu Bakar (PH-Batu Pahat) will seek updates from the Communications Minister regarding government initiatives to acquire or repurchase ownership, copyright, and management rights to films by the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee as national heritage assets.

Motions and Legislative Bills

Following oral question time, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department will table a motion on the Auditor-General’s Report (LKAN) 2/2026, which was originally presented on Monday. The motion urges ministries and public agencies to objectively review audit findings to strengthen financial governance and public fund management.

Additionally, the Health Minister is scheduled to present the second reading of the Food (Amendment) Bill 2026.

The Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, which opened on October 5, 2026, will convene for 37 days until December 8.
