Calls for Early General Election Will Be Considered; Priority On Reviving Economy, Says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that calls for an earlier general election will be considered, but emphasized that the government’s immediate priorities remain reviving the economy, improving public well-being, and tackling corruption.

Speaking to reporters after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Bukit Indah in Ampang Jaya today, Anwar reaffirmed that the federal government remains stable and possesses the mandate required to continue governing and managing the country effectively.

The Prime Minister disclosed that despite facing persistent political pressure and varying recommendations regarding election timing, his administration’s focus remains firm.

“I have personally faced pressure and various suggestions, but I have made my decision. As I told the Cabinet on Wednesday, we have a mandate to govern the country well and to eradicate corruption and abuse of power,” Anwar said.

Addressing the government’s nationwide anti-graft initiatives, Anwar stressed that efforts to eliminate corruption and abuse of power are completely non-racial and not designed to protect the interests of any specific group.

He clarified that enforcement measures apply across the board—whether involving Malays, Chinese, Indians, or citizens from Sabah and Sarawak—with the sole objective of saving the nation and restoring governance standards. Anwar urged the public to support and pray for the administration’s ongoing reform agenda despite the political risks and pressures involved.
