KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — The Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) under Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the investigation into a viral theatre performance video allegedly mocking the Rukun Negara and containing racially sensitive remarks.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed that an initial police report was lodged at the Jalan Tun Razak Police Station under the Wangsa Maju District Police Headquarters at 8:30 pm yesterday. The complainant lodged the report after viewing a stage performance clip uploaded by the Instagram account @THEFEVERKINETIC, which was subsequently deleted before being re-shared on Facebook by another user.
“The investigation into this case will be fully conducted by Bukit Aman’s USJT. We expect several more police reports on the same issue to be lodged nationwide, and all will be referred to the initial report in Wangsa Maju,” Fadil said when contacted today.
The 10-minute video features five actors reciting each of the five principles of the Rukun Negara alongside statements deemed racially sensitive. Preliminary police reviews concluded that the recording’s content has the potential to cause public concern and disrupt social harmony.
Police checks revealed that The Fever Kinetic is an intercultural physical theatre collective founded by a local choreographer, operating in both Malaysia and London, United Kingdom. Investigators believe the clip stems from a recording of a performance originally staged during the “Theatre for The Arts” event in 2018, which was recently re-uploaded in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations.
