Body of Unidentified Man Recovered From 10-Metre-Deep Drain in Pantai Jerejak

GEORGE TOWN, Sept 13 – The body of an unidentified man was found inside a 10-metre-deep drain along Jalan Pantai Jerejak in Taman Pantai Jerejak, George Town, early Sunday morning.

The Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre stated that it received an urgent assistance call from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) at 2:34 am to help retrieve the victim’s body.

Following the distress call, a team of 10 firefighters alongside a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) ambulance from the Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Station were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Rescuers deployed specialized equipment to descend into the drain and haul the victim up to the surface. “The body of the man, believed to be in his 40s, was found at the bottom of the drain and was successfully brought to a safe surface area before the operation was fully concluded at 3.15 am,” JBPM said in an official statement.

The victim’s body was subsequently handed over to PDRM personnel at the scene before being sent to the hospital for a post-mortem examination to establish his identity and ascertain the cause of death.
