BN to Finalise Political Cooperation, Logo for Melaka State Election This Week, Says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 — Barisan Nasional (BN) will finalise its political cooperation framework and electoral logo for the upcoming Melaka state election following strategic discussions with relevant party leaders this week, BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced today.

Speaking at a press conference after officiating the 18th annual general assembly of Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), the Deputy Prime Minister revealed that preliminary discussions have been conducted with the Melaka UMNO Liaison Committee to evaluate potential coalition options before submitting formal proposals to party leadership.

“This week, we will hold discussions with several parties to determine which coalition or party we will work with in the election. We respect whatever decision they make and whichever logo or symbol they choose to use, and we will leave that to them,” Zahid said. “The outcome of the discussions will be brought before UMNO’s top leadership and the BN Supreme Council to finalise our political cooperation for the Melaka state election.”

Zahid was responding to recent remarks by PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan regarding the possibility of Perikatan Nasional (PN) contesting under the PAS logo if no inter-party agreement is reached. Also present at the event was Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia President Datuk Seri R.S. Thanenthiran.

In Melaka, state BN Chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh confirmed that formal negotiations with potential strategic partners would begin tomorrow at WTCKL. Speaking after launching the 2026 Melaka KEMAS Community Festival, Ab Rauf noted that the findings would be submitted to the Political Bureau and Supreme Council to evaluate party strengths and mutual benefits ahead of the polls.

The Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved effective Sept 23, triggering the 16th state election. The Election Commission (EC) is scheduled to meet on Oct 7 to announce key dates for nominations, early voting, and polling day.
