KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 – The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has officially selected Sultan Ibrahim Stadium (SSI) in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, as the venue for the upcoming 2026/2027 FA Cup final scheduled for January 16, 2027.
The decision was finalized during MFL’s third board meeting for the 2025–2029 term. The move comes as the traditional home of Malaysian cup finals, National Stadium Bukit Jalil, is currently unavailable due to comprehensive upgrading works on its pitch, running track, and stadium facilities ahead of the 2027 SEA Games. The renovation works at Bukit Jalil are scheduled for completion in May 2027.
According to the MFL, SSI—the home ground of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT)—was chosen after evaluating several key organizational factors, including pitch conditions, team accommodation, logistics, main stage setups, corporate suites, accessibility, security, and live broadcast capabilities.
“With a capacity of 35,109 spectators alongside comprehensive, top-tier facilities, SSI is the venue of choice following the closure of the National Stadium for sporting events at present,” the MFL stated. “Furthermore, SSI’s reputation as a world-class venue was also a factor, having hosted matches involving Harimau Malaya, including the Tier 1 international friendly against Palestine on Sept 8, 2025, and the 2027 Asian Cup qualifier against Nepal on March 25, 2025.”
This marks the second time SSI will host the FA Cup showpiece, having previously staged the 2023 final where JDT defeated Kuala Lumpur City FC 2-0.
