Over 50 Residents Displaced As Worsening Floods Hit Kubang Pasu And Raub

Floods displace 52 Kubang Pasu Raub relief centres

JITRA, Oct 18 – Worsening flood conditions across Kedah and Pahang have forced 52 residents from 19 families into temporary relief shelters following heavy downpours and rising river waters overnight.

In Kedah, a total of 26 victims from eight families in Mukim Temin, Jitra, were relocated to a temporary relief centre at Dewan Lembah Keriang after floodwaters invaded residential areas late Saturday night.

Kubang Pasu Civil Defence Officer Capt Mohd Adenin Suhaimi confirmed that the relief shelter was activated at 11:00 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2026, to accommodate affected families from Kampung Tradisi and Kampung Baru.

“Kampung Tradisi and Kampung Baru were affected, with the flood situation in the district continuing to worsen despite no rain being reported,” Capt Mohd Adenin stated on Sunday morning.

The registered evacuees at Dewan Lembah Keriang include seven adult men, nine adult women, nine young girls, and a infant boy, with one person with a disability among those seeking shelter.

Inter-Agency Operations In Jitra And Secondary Inundation In Raub

Emergency personnel and inter-agency disaster management committees across both states have activated rescue and relief efforts:

  • Multijurisdictional Response in Kedah: A 25-member relief team comprising personnel from the Civil Defence Force (APM), Social Welfare Department (JKM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Kubang Pasu Municipal Council (MPKP), and SWCorp, alongside local village headmen, has been deployed to assist displaced residents in Mukim Temin.
  • Displacement in Raub, Pahang: In Pahang, an additional 26 victims from 11 families were evacuated to two temporary relief centres in Raub District after floodwaters inundated low-lying settlements.
  • Pahang Relief Centre Activation: The Raub District Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the Balai Raya Kampung Baru Cheroh and Balai Raya Sempam Baru shelters were opened at 7:30 PM on Saturday.
  • Affected Pahang Households: As of 12:16 AM Sunday, floodwaters had breached eight homes in Kampung Cheroh and three homes in Kampung Sempam Baru.
  • On-site Relief and Cubicle Setup: Raub Civil Defence personnel surveyed affected villages, assembled modular relief cubicles, and distributed food aid packs in coordination with PDRM, the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), JKM, and Village Development and Security Committees (JPKK).

Disaster management secretariats in both districts remain on high alert as upstream drainage continues to swell water channels despite clear skies in surrounding areas.
