KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 – Air quality levels deteriorated across several states on Sunday morning, with 15 areas nationwide recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9:00 AM, led by Pasir Gudang in Johor with an API of 180.
Data from the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal revealed that Johor remains the worst-affected state, with seven other locations registering unhealthy air levels:
- Larkin: 178
- Kota Tinggi: 166
- Tangkak: 164
- Segamat: 162
- Pengerang: 160
- Kluang: 159
- Batu Pahat: 151
Regional Air Quality Breakdown and Classification Standard
Haze conditions also extended across Pahang, Terengganu, Melaka, and the Klang Valley:
- Pahang: Balok Baru in Kuantan recorded an API reading of 159, while Rompin logged 153.
- Kuala Lumpur: Cheras reported an unhealthy API level of 157.
- Terengganu: Kemaman and Kuala Terengganu both registered readings of 156, while Paka recorded 133.
- Melaka: Alor Gajah registered an API reading of 103.
- National Distribution: Aside from the 15 unhealthy locations, 50 areas across Malaysia recorded moderate air quality, while only three areas registered good air quality levels.
According to official DOE benchmarks, an API reading of 0–50 denotes good air quality, 51–100 represents moderate conditions, 101–200 signifies unhealthy levels, 201–300 indicates very unhealthy conditions, and readings exceeding 300 are classified as hazardous.
