KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 – Schools in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu will open and operate as usual on Sunday, October 11, 2026, as Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in all three northern and east coast states remain under control.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek confirmed the operational decision in an official statement on Saturday evening, October 10, 2026, assuring parents and educators that the Ministry of Education (MOE) is closely tracking localized air quality metrics.
“Schools in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will operate as usual tomorrow (Oct 11) as the API readings are still under control,” Fadhlina stated.
MOE Closure Thresholds and Monitoring Guidelines
The ministry reiterated its standing directives regarding haze management for all public educational institutions:
- Immediate Closure Threshold: All educational institutions under MOE purview located in areas where the API reading exceeds 180 are directed to close immediately, as enforced during earlier outbreaks starting October 9.
- Prolonged Unhealthy Air Threshold: Schools in regions recording API levels above 150 for three consecutive days are instructed to close starting Monday, October 12.
- Health and Safety Focus: MOE emphasized that operational guidelines and temporary closures are strictly designed to safeguard the health, well-being, and safety of students and teaching staff during severe haze conditions.
The ministry will continue to issue timely updates based on official environmental monitoring data from the Department of Environment (DOE).
